I am in Houston right now and am absolutely loving i. It's my second time here and I think I love it even more the first time if that is at gll possible.
In order to get a cheaper flight as Matt was booking it kind of last minute, I had to take the milkrun with long layovers. But, I didn't mind as it was nice relaxing in airports with no kids to chase after. The only part of me that did mind my 22 hour travel day was my ankles and feet. I have NEVER, not even when I was pregnant, seen my feet and ankles swell to that size. It was crazy.
I found LAX to be a really crazy airport, and I was thankful a few times that I was travelling alone without my kids. I had to switch terminals and I couldn't find a shuttle so I walked the entire way which took me almost 45 minutes. Then once I found the right terminal I had to take a shuttle to anothet part of the terminal.....and the shuttle was driving right on the run way. So in front of me was a huge plane, behind me was a smaller plane and planes were taking off right beside us. It was insane. Unfortunately, I have to go back through LA on my way home. But, in my opinion I will definately be steering clear of this airport when travelling with my kids in the future.
Anyway I got into Houston at about 2:30am and took a taxi to an airport hotel as Matt was not flying in until much later that day. I have dreamt about staying in a hotel by myself with no kids for as long as I can remember and I finally got to be in a quiet, dark hotel room with just me and my book. Ohhhhh......sweet bliss. I slept in, read a little, slept some more.....it was fantastic.
Matt picked me up and took me out for dinner where we got to catch up on all that has been happening while we've been apart.
I haven't seen alot of Houston but what I have seen in my nice little suberbia area.....I love, love love. The people are so nice and friendly here that it amazes me everyday. People want their jobs as retail jobs are not a dime a dozen like in Edmonton, so the customer service is above and beyond. The people are very fast to compliment you on what you are wearing etc. Today, for instance, eight.......eight....people stopped and told me they liked my hair. I find this crazy but also very nice.
The last few days on my holiday have been pure bliss and I am going to have a hard time returning to reality in a few days. I've been waking up around 10 or 11, laying by the pool (actually floating in the pool as its just too hot to not be in water), walking to the mall for some shopping (I love Macy's), and then Matt picks me up and we go out for a nice dinner ; sometimes with his co-workers sometimes not, and then home to Matt's boss' apartment where we get to spend quality, uninterrupted time together. It has been heavingly.
The only downside is that I miss my kids something fierce. I know that they are well taken care of and are being loved on, but, I really miss them.
I will be back in a few days with pictures of some of my favorite things in Houston. And when I get back to Edmonton I will have alot of catching up to do on everything we did on our three week holiday.
